The spring 2025 term is almost here! Review the information below to make sure your student is ready for the next semester at Carthage.
Finalize payment plans
Payments for the spring semester were due Jan. 3. Make sure that your student has a payment plan set up or that they’ve paid their tuition balance in full. To do this, students should log in to Workday, click on the “Finances” tab, and then navigate to NelNet. To be financially clear for your student to start their spring semester, a payment option must be initiated. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the Office of Student Financial Services.
Confirm the class schedule
Registration for spring courses was Nov. 11-15, but it’s a good idea to have your student check their schedule in Workday to ensure everything looks up to date. If you have any questions or concerns, take a look at this guide or contact the Office of the Registrar.
Receive materials from the bookstore
During summer 2024, students had the option to either opt in or opt out of Carthage’s Equitable Access Program. If your student opted into the program, make sure they receive their materials via mail or that they pick them up from the bookstore. If your student opted out of the program, make sure they obtain their course materials before the start of the spring semester. Students can review their materials and account via the Slingshot Online Portal.
Exciting upcoming events
Take a look at some major events and important dates for the spring term.
Spring Involvement Fair
At the beginning of every spring semester, Carthage hosts an Involvement Fair, where students can explore different campus student organizations and clubs. All students are welcome and encouraged to attend the fair to get first-hand information about the orgs and sign up to join the ones they are interested in. The Spring 2025 Involvement Fair takes place Wednesday, Feb. 5.
Internship and Career Fairs
During spring career fairs, students can network with potential employers, learn about organizations that interest them, apply for jobs on the spot (they may even get an interview!), seek out academic internships for summer and fall, and practice their interviewing skills. The WIPCCC Career Expo takes place Tuesday, Feb. 18.
SURE Applications
The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience at Carthage is a program designed to allow students of all majors to collaborate with a faculty mentor on full-time research. This opportunity is only available to those who complete the application in late February/early March. If your student is interested in working closely with a faculty member and completing a significant research project for their resume, have them apply for the SURE program.
Red and Ready Giving Days
Red and Ready Giving Days are set to have philanthropic goals to raise funds for initiatives across campus that directly support students and programs. Although Carthage does seek donors for this event, not everyone has to donate! On April 10-11, parents, students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of Carthage can participate in the event by being ambassadors. The idea of Red and Ready Days is to create unity within the Carthage community to come together and raise funds for our students.
Celebration of Scholars
The Celebration of Scholars is an event where students and faculty can present their scholarly work. For students, this is the senior thesis, SURE project, or creative work completed during a course or through independent research with a faculty member. Events at the Celebration of Scholars, taking place April 25-27, includes the Poster Exhibition, the Student Award Ceremony, the Nursing Pinning Ceremony, the Multicultural Celebration, The Embers, and the Honors Award Ceremony.
Commencement
Graduating seniors and graduate students will walk the stage and receive their diplomas during Commencement Weekend, Friday, May 23 and Saturday, May 24. Families are invited to share this experience with their students during a full schedule of activities!
